‘ESTIA’
‘ESTIA’ is the Annual Meeting of the Department of History and Archaeology which was initiated by Stella Papadaki-Oakland, Professor of Byzantine Archaeology, when she was head of the Department in 1996.
ESTIA is held every spring with the participation of teaching staff, postgraduate and undergraduate students.
During this meeting, members of the Department present their research-in-progress, as well as academic issues they would like to discuss with their fellow colleagues. The community feeling which is created through these meetings encourages the exchange of views and provides multiple scientific stimuli to the participants. At the same time, it strengthens the bonds among the members of the department, furthering them during everyday university life. Traditionally, sessions are chaired by the students, while conference sessions are followed by joint dinners and recreation activities for all participants. Each ‘ESTIA’ includes at least one visit to a historical or archaeological site adjacent to the area where the Meeting takes place.
