Discontinued Degree Courses

Degree Course A1 lays emphasis on the history of the Ancient Mediterranean World, of Medieval Europe, including the history of Byzantine Empire, as well as the period of Latin domination in the Aegean. Selected courses offer students the possibility of broadening their knowledge in the relevant fields of study.
Enrollment in Degree Course A1 is no longer available to students who have been admitted to the Department since the academic year 2014-2015.

[1] One particular module is compulsory.
[2] Among lectures offered by the Faculty of Letters and lectures on Sociology offered by the Department of Sociology. No more than two (2) modules on Education or training courses in teaching (only by the Faculty of Letters) are permitted. Seminars can replace lectures upon authorization by the academic advisors.
[3] One (1) on Ancient History, one (1) on Medieval History-Byzantium, one (1) on Medieval History-Western Europe, one (1) in any History subject area and two (2) free choices offered by the Department of History & Archaeology. Of the above six (6) seminars, one also includes fieldwork in the context of field training projects both inside and outside the country. Degree Course A2 focuses on Modern and Contemporary history. A free selection of lectures gives students the possibility of broadening their knowledge in the relevant fields of study according to their interests.
Enrollment in Degree Course A2 is no longer available to students who have been admitted to the Department since the academic year 2014-2015.

[1] It is possible that one (1) lecture is replaced by fieldwork training courses in local Archives, in the State Archives, in the Archives of Contemporary Social History, in the Institute of Mediterranean Studies of ITR, in the Institute of Modern Greek Research–National Research Foundation, in Museums and other Cultural Centers, or in research projects, under the supervision of the section’s teaching staff. The training courses take place in one semester during the last 3 (three) years of studies.
[2] Preferably a selection of one (1) lecture at least from each field of study in Ancient History, Byzantine History and Western Medieval History respectively.
[3] Students cannot select modules in History or Archaeology from the above Departments.
[4] It is compulsory that two (2) are on Modern Greek Literature.
[5] According to their personal choice, lectures on Education can be replaced by a free choice of lectures offered by the Department of History & Archaeology and the Faculty of Letters.
[6] Three (3) in Modern History, one (1) in Ancient or Medieval History (Byzantium and Western Europe), one (1) choice between Modern History, Ottoman History, or the History of Western Art and a free choice of one (1) seminar offered by the Department of History & Archaeology.

Students enrolled in Degree Courses A1 and Α2 have the right to transfer to the Degree Course A by submitting an application to the Departmental Office. The option of moving to Degree Course A is offered to all students in Degree Courses A1 and A2 who have been admitted to the Department since the academic year 2008-2009.

Students in Degree Course A2 who wish to move to Degree A are allowed to substitute two modules in Ancient Greek Literature, one module in Latin Literature and one Literature module (ancient Greek, Latin, Byzantine or Modern Greek) with a free choice of four (4) modules from all three Departments of the Faculty of Letters.

For students in Degree Course A1 moving to Degree A, the required modules in Ancient Greek and Latin remain compulsory, according to the Undergraduate Studies Guide.
