Department of History and Archaeology Academic Meeting

The Department of History and Archaeology Academic Meeting (Greek E.S.T.I.A.) was established in 1996 on the initiative of Stella Papadaki-Oekland, late Professor of Byzantine Archaeology and Head of Department at the time.
The meeting is held annually in the spring, with the participation of teaching staff and postgraduate and undergraduate students.
The meeting offers teaching staff in the Department the opportunity to present their own research work in progress, and raise questions on academic issues they wish to share with colleagues. The community ambience created at the meetings facilitates the exchange of opinions and provides those participating with a wealth of academic impetus. At the same time, it promotes closer ties between members of the Department beyond everyday university routine on campus. By tradition, students preside at all sessions, while in the evenings all participants dine and socialize together.

The meeting programme generally includes an educational visit to a historical or archaeological site in the vicinity of the venue.
